Agree with the sentiments in the article. There is a dire lack of professionalism and altruistic intentions amongst our so-called leaders. They manipulate "the common touch".

Sri Lanka can operate with less than 10 ministers if it so desired. It's a massive scam this bloated cabinet, a colossal waste of money. And thoroughly blurs the lines of accountability.

"I agree that the “leaders” of political parties in the South are wicked and senseless."

- I take it the leadership of the LTTE comprises of tree-hugging hippies?

I don't disagree with your statement entirely..just feel it's incomplete.

I agree that the "leaders" of political parties in the South are wicked and senseless. They are so used to violation of human rights that they have become insesnsitive to them.

No one can succeed in putting reason into their heads because they are engrossed in the wrong belief that they are right.

Only a person who thinks that he could be wrong, could listen to advise and change for the better !!

I agree with the author of this article that Sri Lanka has a dearth of true leaders. There are two major reasons for this; one factor has been the murder of leading politicians by the LTTE. Another has been the paucity of men and women entering politics with any genuine set of moral principles. Most have seen politics as a way of joining the gravy train of public corruption.

But principles alone are not enough. The country needs an educated class of people who are knowledgeable and politically mature. People who see themselves as Sri Lankans ahead of either their ethnic or political allegiances. That is hard when one's job and place in the world depends on who you vote for.

In Britiain, for example, people see being British as an overarching symbol of belonging over and above their ethnicity. While holding allegiances to parties and ethnic groups exist among the native British they also set aside their differences in the interest of the common weal.

Something modern Sri Lankans simply will not bring themselves to do.

Journalist
We have excellent journalist with independent and impartial journalist with common sense approach these are few in Sri Lanka.
Other’s I see as political henchmen. Who endorse the wrong and glorify political hooligans.
National Politics vs Party Politics
Divide and rule policy was introduce by are colonial rulers. By now we as all Sri Lankan should be aware and learn the lesson after 60 years that we need to be harmonies with all ethnic groups and should be aware this country is for all not for any majority ethnic group.
Our country has a racism issue this has created by the leadership of LTTE and the Mahinda Rajapaksa
To make credible peace Mahinda Rajapaksa should shrink in his cabinet and the public spending.
Can any one tell me if I am wrong if so on what grounds lets unite as a human being than cast or creed
We as Sri Lankans will reach and attain better things in life we change are attitudes towards all walks of life.
